Ripley's Believe It Or Not

Ripley's believe it or not is a chain of 12 Odditoriums (not Auditoriums) and Ripley's Believe it or not Orlando is one among them. For about 40 years, Robert Ripley went about exploring and collecting a variety of items.

Traveling across the world, he collected the unusual and unique artifacts and added to his existing collection.

Though Ripley originally aspired to be a professional player of baseball, an injury he suffered in 1913 compelled him to pursue cartooning which was his next love. 1918 December saw Ripley premiering his new cartoon panel "Champs and Chumps" and quickly the title was changed to Believe it or Not.

Orlando is famous for a wide array of crowd pullers. The Disney World and its huge population of theme parks will be the first in the line of Orlando travel attractions for those visiting Orlando. Ripley's Believe it or not Orlando, in its strict sense cannot be considered an attraction. The collections on view here include some of the most well known artifacts that Ripley ever collected. Worth mentioning among them is the "shrunken heads" from Ecuador.

Those were times when prized possessions from war zones included the heads of 'slain warriors'. A complicated process was then used to separate the head from the skull to be boiled down and reduced to the size of the fist of a man. Several other rare artifacts like this are on view at every Ripley's Believe it or not Orlando and other locations.

And, now believe this or not! The Fertility Statutes at Ripley's Believe it or not Orlando is an outstanding statement of what prompted Ripley to go looking for these unique items around the globe. In 1995, these statues were originally imported from the Ivory Coast to serve the role of decorative pieces outside the Ripley's Believe it or not Orlando Odditorium. But, these statutes came with a job cut out for them. During the first year of display at the odditorium, 8 from the 20 staffers the Odditorium had, either became parents or were parents in the making.

Again, another woman whose occupation was Express delivery was devout in touching these statues during the pick up or delivery trips she made to the museum. Result! She became pregnant soon. Yet another female staff member became pregnant in spite of being on birth control pills.

The story did not take much time to spread like wildfire and featured in CNN and Unsolved Mysteries. The statues then made a world tour and are back at Ripley's Believe it or Not Orlando. Next time you are on travel Orlando, if you are expecting to start a family, go ahead and touch the statues.
